The 4th of July was an overwhelming success because of the hard work of the Events Committee and the many willing volunteers. It included our FW Fire Department, City Council District 5 Council representative Deborah Peoples (our Green River Trail neighbor) accompanied by well-known Kathleen Hicks, FWISD member Tobi Jackson ,numerous decorated floats with seated participants, antique cars, scooters, bicycles, walkers and a neighbor recently retired from the FWPD who is now providing security for one of our local school districts.
The parade was kept on the path by COPS patrollers, and the route was lined with neighbors and well-wishers, while the children received candy and treats from the floats and cars. At Smith Wilemon Park there were volunteers serving free ice cream, face painting, patriotic washable tattoos, giveaways for children, music and the Boy Scouts formally posting the colors. We concluded with prizes for the six best decorated floats in the parade.
Next up is the Fall Festival-I can hardly wait and remember our next neighborhood meeting on July 14th when our guest speaker will be our neighbor and City Council member Deborah Peoples.
Thank you, volunteers-you know who you are, and you make our neighborhood stronger and safer!
